Dear Harley

Dear Harley,

Did I ever tell you that on New Year's Day 2006, I felt more like myself than I possibly had before or since? It was probably the hangover, but you know that feeling you have right before you fully wake up of comfort and love? That's what I felt all day. How is your bus coming along?

Thinking of you,

Jess

Dear Danny

Dear Danny,

Happy Passover! (Does one actually say "Happy Passover?" I still have so much to learn.) I have been saving this postcard for just this occassion. Things I learned about Passover today: you're supposed to recline. And there's parsley involved. Do you think that I'm ready for Birthright yet?

Dear Liesa

Dear Liesa,

It's wild how quickly the last four years have passed. It seems like only yesterday you were pointing and laughing at me as a giant centipede attacked me. (Ah, the good times!) I'm still living in Toronto and working for YCI. I email Morsen for work sometimes, but I think he hasn't made the connection that he knows me? Becca is getting married this summer and Jo is living with her bf in Singapore/London soon. I want to make it back there soon.

Dear Katherine

Dear Katherine,

I'm curious to hear about your Bahamas trip compares to mine. The Atlantis was over the top. Lots of 19-year-olds who barely pass for 15. (It was bad for my self-esteem. I am going to run like I'm training for a marathon as soon as I get home.) There was a club to rival Club Mangu, but we didn't going because we're old. Jay had never been on a waterslide before! I think we may stay at West Ed in Aug.

XOXO,

Jess

Dear Mom and Dad

Dear Mom & Dad,

I have the worst sunburn ever. Things I discovered this weekend--Life brand sunscreen, despite its packaging, is NOT waterproof in the slightest bit. Our resort was ridiculous. It has the world's largest man-made marine ecosystem or some jazz like that. There were sharks and waterlides. It was fun, but I'm looking forward to covering my body in aloe vera.

Dear Chloe

Dear Chloe,

I did not see any kittens in the Bahamas. Fact. I did, however, see sharks gliding over my head as I went through a glass encased waterslide that goes through a shark tank yesterday. Going to the Bahamas for the weekend was a ridiculous activity and the resort we stayed at was equally over-the-top. I know I'm breaking my own rules by sending you this (2nd postcard in 2010) but I didn't want to deprive you.

XOXO,

Jess

Dear Jessica Watson

Dear Jessica,

It seems strange that as I'm hurtling through the air towards a tropical destination (name doesn't matter--tourist demands have turned each island into one indistinguishable from the next) you're sailing below. I grew up sailing in northern Alberta and reading your blog makes me wish I was 16 again. I particularly liked your post about St. Paul and Amsterdam island. You are inspiring. Keep writing!

Dear Stone's Place

Dear Stone's Place,

I regularly pay $10 to enter your establishment. It has turned into such a meat market that $10 is a totally reasonable price to pay for a guaranteed self-esteem boost. However, can you please stop letting douchebags with eurotrash rattails through the door? Quantity is good, but there's no excuse for flat-out bad quality.

Thinking of you!

Dear Chalene Johnson

Dear Chalene,

Every day, following my turbojam workout, I tell my TV screen, "Thanks Chalene!" so I thought I should tell the real version, rather than the pixelated one. I love turbojam. I haven't lost any weight or really gained any definition (probably because I love cheese more) but it really does make me feel like a "powerful warrior."

Thinking of you!
